J2 Capital is a private investment firm founded by Samantha and Cale James, two New Zealanders, now based in the United Arab Emirates.
We don't manage other people's money. Every cheque we write comes directly from our own capital. We carefully select portfolio companies based on what we want to see brought into the world, with founders we can add genuine value to.
What we believe.
For years, banks and other traditional financial institutions have been slow to adopt blockchain technology. They now find themselves falling behind the needs of a global world and how value is transmitted across it.
Crypto has long promised to be the answer, but over the years has been subject to malicious actors, uncooperative regulators, and the growing pains all too commonly associated with emerging technologies.
We believe, however, that blockchain and digital assets have finally reached the slope of enlightenment. Traditional finance knows it must adopt this technology to meet the needs of a global world. Blockchains are now battle-tested, reliable, and capable of transmitting value at a scale significantly larger than when they began. And we are currently in the most cooperative regulatory environment the industry has ever seen.
All the stars are aligned for blockchain and digital assets to radically improve the traditional financial rails and transform how value moves across the globe.
How we invest.
J2 Capital does not take any external funds. Every cheque we write comes directly from our own capital. With that, we only invest in ideas we want to see brought into this world, with founders we genuinely believe we can add value to.
A significant part of that involves helping companies gain traction in the Middle East market through our connections here, both in the local ecosystem and relevant government agencies. In addition, we leverage our experience in the industry to assist our portfolio companies across GTM, hiring, raising, and any way we can.
If we don't believe we're best suited to help, we don't invest.

Samantha James

Why do some ideas reshape industries while most quietly disappear?
Samantha has spent much of her career thinking about that question. Her master's research explored why innovation so often fails once it leaves the whiteboard. The answer was rarely the idea itself. More often, it came down to people — alignment, incentives, and execution.
That curiosity carried her from management consulting into asset management at ADQ, one of the UAE's sovereign wealth funds, where she worked at the intersection of capital, technology, and complex systems.
These experiences reinforced a simple belief: bold ideas matter — but bold people matter more.

Cale James
Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Like many, Cale's early life directed him along the traditional path — good grades, university, a sensible job with stability and linear growth. But each year, the restlessness grew.
After several years in management consulting, he found his outlet in crypto and web3 — an arena where the ability to grow, earn and learn felt endless. For the next few years he spent every waking hour researching, trading, investing, consulting and helping scale some of the fastest-growing startups in the space.
Cale understands what it means to follow your own path, to take action, and the urge to shape what comes next. At J2, he backs founders doing the same.
